The story

In 2018, Udayan Bhanot was approached by an Australian-based aged care to assure it of the safety and compliance of their PV assets.

The auditors

Udayan and Mark Richards spent over 2 months auditing the systems to the exacting standards these auditers were renowned for.

The findings

Multiple opportunities were found to 'improve' the systems and make them safer.

Non compliant seals

Manufacturers provide special seals to fill in any unused holes.  The practice of using an existing cable off cut, is not approved by the manufacturer.  AS3000 Cl 1.7.1. c

Silicon is not an approved means!

AS5033 is quite clear that Silicon is not an approved means to try and attempt achieving an IP rating.  This is especially critical in electrical connections.  Here we see a dc set of cables that connects the pv array to the inverter; moisutre can enter and 'track' up to the connections.
